Kansas City, Missouri – Kansas City is moving forward with another significant step in its ongoing effort to expand access to affordable housing, as officials open the sixth round of funding through the city’s Affordable Housing Trust Fund. With up to $15 million available, the latest funding cycle invites proposals aimed at creating new housing opportunities and supporting pathways to homeownership.
The application window is set to begin on March 30 and will remain open until May 15 at 4:59 p.m. CDT, giving developers and housing organizations several weeks to prepare and submit their plans. The funding is intended to support a range of initiatives, including new construction, preservation of existing units, and programs that assist residents in securing stable housing.
Since launching in 2021, the Trust Fund has become a central piece of Kansas City’s housing strategy. Over that time, it has directed $60 million toward projects designed to increase the supply and accessibility of affordable homes. Those investments have contributed to the development and preservation of approximately 3,000 housing units across the city, reflecting a steady push to meet growing demand.
The program is administered by the city’s Housing and Community Development Department, which continues to work closely with nonprofit developers and community partners. In addition to financing construction, the fund also supports transitional housing solutions, offering critical options for residents navigating housing instability.
City officials emphasize that the impact extends beyond housing alone. According to department leadership, each dollar invested through the fund generates a much larger ripple effect in the local economy, fueling job creation, supporting contractors, and increasing demand for domestically produced materials. The broader goal is not only to expand housing access but also to strengthen economic stability for residents.
To help potential applicants navigate the process, the department has scheduled two informational workshops in early April. These sessions are designed to walk participants through eligibility requirements, project expectations, and the application procedure, providing clarity ahead of submission deadlines.
As the next round opens, Kansas City continues to position the Affordable Housing Trust Fund as a key driver in addressing housing needs, blending public investment with community-focused development to shape the city’s future housing landscape.
