KC Futures invites community partners on June 9 to shape stronger paths for youth and young adults

Date:

Kanas City, Missouri – Kansas City’s youth-serving community will have a full day to gather, compare ideas and look for better ways to support young people when KC Futures hosts a citywide convening on June 9.

The event, called One City. One Future: A Kansas City Youth & Young Adult Convening, will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Kauffman Foundation Conference Center, 4801 Rockhill Road. It is free and open to the public, with registration available at cognitoforms.com/KansasCity2/OneCityOneFutureKansasCityYouthYoungAdultConvening.

The gathering is aimed at adults and organizations that work with youth and young adults across Kansas City. Educators, nonprofit leaders, workforce partners, faith leaders, civic groups and other community members are invited to take part. The goal is simple but wide-reaching: bring people into the same room, help them learn from one another and identify where young people may still be falling through the cracks.

Throughout the day, participants will focus on collaboration and shared learning. Organizers say the convening is meant to help align efforts across sectors, strengthen partnerships and highlight system gaps that affect youth and young adults.

Instead of each group working in isolation, the event will encourage a broader citywide conversation about what young people need now and what support should look like in the years ahead.

“Healthy communities are built when young people are heard and when organizations work together toward shared goals,” said Dr. Marvia Jones, director of the Kansas City Health Department.

“The One City. One Future convening reflects our commitment to listening, learning, and aligning efforts so youth and young adults can thrive — now and for generations to come.”

The June 9 event is part of the broader work of KC Futures, which supports community-driven solutions focused on improving outcomes for young people across Kansas City. Graphics and flyers are also available to help organizations promote the convening and spread the word.

KC Futures is tied to a larger effort to give young residents a stronger voice in local government. Through the KC Futures Commission, youth members meet regularly to discuss issues, learn how city decision-making works and develop policy ideas based on their own community experiences.

The commission is built on the belief that civic engagement should start early. When young people are included in local decisions, they can become more informed, more confident and better prepared to help shape the future of Kansas City.
