Kansas City, Missouri – Drivers heading north on Interstate 49 through Cass County will face a narrow overnight squeeze later this week as pavement work reaches the 163rd Street area.
The disruption is limited to one lane, but it will stretch through most of the night, making the work zone something motorists will want to watch for even when traffic is lighter.
The Missouri Department of Transportation will close one northbound lane of I-49 at 163rd Street beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13. The lane is scheduled to reopen by 6 a.m. Aug. 14.

Crews will use the overnight closure to complete pavement work. The schedule is weather dependent, meaning conditions could affect when the work takes place.
MoDOT is asking motorists traveling through the area to reduce their speed and stay alert around workers and equipment. The agency also reminds drivers that work zones do not always involve large construction projects or long-term traffic changes.
Some work zones can appear with little warning and may involve temporary lane closures needed for pavement repairs, debris removal or other short-duration maintenance. That makes paying attention to signs, cones and changing traffic patterns especially important, even on familiar routes.

For drivers using northbound I-49 near 163rd Street, the main impact is expected during the overnight period from Thursday into Friday morning. One lane will remain closed while the pavement work is underway.
