Kansas City community health fair this weekend to feature COVID-19 shots, dental exams, diabetes testing, and more

Kansas City, Missouri – Hickman Mills United Neighborhoods is holding a free health fair on Saturday, September 21, at Holmeswood Baptist Church at 9700 Holmes Rd., in an effort to promote community health and wellness. Aimed at encouraging improved health and early detection of possible health problems, the event, set from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., will include a broad spectrum of health services ranging from vaccines to tests.

The free COVID-19 Pfizer vaccinations for everyone five years of age and above as well as booster shots from both Pfizer and Moderna will be highlights of the event. Parents or guardians will have to be present to give permission for any child between the ages of five and seventeen getting vaccinated. Aimed at preventing several forms of cancers connected to the virus, the expo will also provide HPV vaccinations for individuals 9 and above.

One more important service provided at the expo will be health tests. Along with freebies including toothbrushes and other hygienic products, dental exams will be also offered. Referrals for those requiring further dental treatment will come from the dental school at University of Missouri Kansas City. Adults who are 18 years of age and above will get blood sugar and A1C testing for type 2 diabetes in addition to blood pressure checks and risk assessments. Furthermore, there will be cancer education and screenings to teach visitors how to lower their risk of acquiring common forms of cancer.

Additionally provided at the fair will be private screenings for sexually transmitted diseases (STIs). Trained experts will be on hand for anyone struggling with the difficulties of tobacco usage to provide tools for continuous support and advise on quitting.

The fair’s services are made possible through the collaboration of several prominent institutions, including the University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC), University Health, and Children’s Mercy Kansas City. Funding for this vital community event is provided by Jackson County.

A limited amount of incentive payments—first-come, first-served—will be awarded to attendees to encourage participation. This health fair offers the community an excellent opportunity to be proactive toward improved health by combining free health services with possibilities for financial incentives.
