Kansas City invites residents to free community celebration later this month with cultural performances and $20 gift cards

Date:

Kansas City, Missouri – Kansas City residents who speak different languages will come together later this month for a community gathering that highlights an important part of everyday life: being able to understand and access local government services.

The celebration will mark two years of work by the City of Kansas City’s Office of Language Access (OLA), which helps connect residents with information and services regardless of the language they speak.

The City of Kansas City, Missouri, is inviting the public to attend its Language Access Community Celebration on Saturday, October 24, 2026. The event will take place at Guadalupe Centers, located at 1015 Avenida Cesar E. Chavez in Kansas City, from 9:30 a.m. until noon.

Organizers have planned a morning filled with cultural performances, community participation and opportunities for residents to learn more about available City resources.

The gathering is designed to recognize the connections built during the office’s first two years while giving residents a chance to interact directly with City representatives and community organizations.

Visitors can expect interactive activities, resource tables and presentations featuring community voices. City services and local partners will also be represented, allowing attendees to ask questions, explore resources and make connections.

There will be light refreshments and a boxed lunch for participants.

One additional incentive may encourage residents to arrive early. The first 100 attendees will receive a $20 QuikTrip gift card, representing a total of $2,000 in gift cards if all 100 are distributed.

Language accessibility will be part of the celebration itself.

Interpretation services will be available in Spanish, Dari and Oromo, along with American Sign Language (ASL). These services are intended to help more residents participate in the activities and receive information during the event.

People who need interpretation in another language can also request assistance in advance.

The same applies to anyone requiring another accommodation to participate, including arrangements related to food allergies. Requests must be submitted to the Office of Language Access by Monday, October 19.
