Kansas City students receive essential supplies like notebooks, pens, and backpacks

Kansas City, Missouri – The Mattie Rhodes Center is helping over 500 youngsters with basic school supplies as Kansas City families get ready for the return to classes. Two major back-to–school rallies scheduled for August by the center are meant to provide students with the resources they need for a great academic year.

The first event is set for Thursday, August 8, at the Mattie Rhodes Center’s Northeast location at 148 North Topping Avenue from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Working with the Guadalupe Centers at the Youth Recreation Center, housed at 2641 Belleview Avenue, the second event will take place Friday, August 19. This session spans 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Speaking to KCTV, the president and CEO of the Mattie Rhodes Center, John Fierro, underlined the importance of the events. For Mattie Rhodes Center children and families, Fierro said, the Back-to- School Rally is essential since it guarantees that every student gets the tools needed to start their education helping them to be ready to learn on day one. The event also facilitates the link between families and students with essential educational partners, social services, health resources, and local schools.

Distribution of the school supplies will follow first-come, first-served approach. These events give families access to community services that could assist their educational path all year long in addition to giving students actual equipment including notebooks, pens, and backpacks.
