Mayor and City Council seek public input on Kansas City’s economic future

Date:

Kansas City, Missouri – By implementing a strategy plan aiming for great public and company input, Kansas City is making major steps toward creating a more equitable environment for economic growth. This project aims to change the economic scene of the city through a thorough survey, thereby enabling community members and company owners to express their ideas on how to improve and implement appropriate economic policies.

Under the direction of Sixth District Councilmember-at-Large Andrea Bough, who also oversees the Finance, Governance, and Public Safety Committee, the project seeks to combine the requirements and ideas of all the involved parties into one strategic framework.

“Ensuring that we have a vision for equitable economic development is key to forming a foundation upon which we can continue to grow Kansas City for all. It is my hope that this policy can provide a guidebook for all stakeholders who work in the area of economic development. To achieve our goals, we need to hear from as many voices as possible on your vision for Kansas City,” said Councilmember Andrea Bough, 6th District-at-Large.

The Equitable Economic Development Plan focuses on several core objectives:

  • Consolidating stakeholder priorities into a cohesive plan.
  • Simplifying public access to tools offered by development agencies.
  • Addressing development challenges through improved public processes such as hearings, applications, and community engagements.
  • Establishing a regular review cycle to ensure the policies remain relevant and effective.
  • Creating a robust system to measure the impact and success of economic development initiatives.

The unanimous passage of an ordinance by the Kansas City Council, which Councilmember Bough presented, emphasizes the relevance of this development plan. This legislation seeks to commit the required time and money to efficiently satisfy the economic demands of the community.

“Kansas City’s success depends on the voices of its people. The Equitable Economic Development Survey allows every community and business in our city to be heard,” said Mayor Quinton Lucas. “By listening to Kansas City residents and business owners, we can develop policies and programs that promote economic growth -offering inclusivity and opportunity for all. I encourage everyone to participate in this important process and share their vision for a better Kansas City.”

“I want to thank the City Council for their leadership in taking this critical first step toward creating an equitable economic development plan. The public’s input is essential in shaping policies that reflect the diverse needs and aspirations of our residents. Together, with the collaboration of all stakeholders, we can drive sustainable growth and ensure Kansas City’s prosperity reaches every corner of our community,” said City Manager Brian Platt.
