Missouri – Governor Mike Parson has declared that U.S. and Missouri flags will be flown at half-staff across all government buildings from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, February 10, in memory of Jean Carpenter Carnahan, a former U.S. Senator and Missouri First Lady who left a lasting impact on the state and its residents.
Jean Carnahan, who passed away on January 30 at the age of 90, is remembered for her passionate advocacy and significant contributions that made Missouri a better place during her tenure as both a U.S. Senator and First Lady of Missouri. She made history as Missouri’s first female senator, stepping into the role after the tragic loss of her husband in 2001.
Governor Parson, alongside the First Lady of Missouri, expressed deep admiration for Carnahan’s lifelong commitment to public service, highlighting her unwavering support for children, veterans, military service members, and the citizens of Missouri.
As Missouri prepares to lower its flags in Carnahan’s memory, the move serves as a reflection of the state’s gratitude for her service and the lasting legacy she leaves behind.
