Kansas City, Missouri – Kansas City has named Brenton Siverly as the new Deputy Director of Finance, putting a new face in charge of its finances. Siverly, who has a lot of experience in public sector finance, will start his new job on June 23, 2025. In this job, he will be in charge of the City’s Budget and Revenue Divisions, setting the long-term financial strategy, and overseeing tax administration and revenue projections.
Kansas City is working to make its finance operations even more unified by hiring Siverly. The City has changed the way the Finance Department works such that the Deputy Director is now in charge of both the Budget and Revenue Divisions.
This change should make planning easier, enhance collaboration, and help the city better manage public money. A new Budget Manager role will also be created to help with day-to-day tasks. This will provide Siverly more time to work on big-picture strategies and projects that include more than one department.
Siverly has a lot of experience in this job. His most recent job was as the Director of Finance for the University of Kansas Medical Center’s Schools of Nursing and Health Professions. Before that, he was the Deputy Budget Director for the City of Chicago and the Assistant Budget Director for the State of Missouri.
In both capacities, he was in charge of parts of a $35 billion budget. He has a lot of experience working in both state and local government, which makes him well-suited to handle the problems that Kansas City’s finances provide.
“We’re excited to welcome Brenton to the Finance Department and to the City of Kansas City,” said Finance Director Tammy Queen. “He’s a proven leader with the experience and insight to help us manage resources responsibly and build a stronger financial future.”
“Brenton brings the experience and perspective needed to lead one of the City’s most important functions—our budget,” said City Manager Mario Vasquez. “He has the type of commitment and enthusiasm for public service that will help us align resources, support departments, and deliver for residents across Kansas City.”
Siverly’s arrival comes at a time when Kansas City is also working to modernize its budgeting and financial management in a bigger way. City leaders say the goal is to make sure that the budget process meets the demands of the community and gives residents actual outcomes.
